The afternoon begins with documenting the outcomes of the morning meetings. Writing up detailed meeting minutes and following up on any urgent actions that came out of the site discussions is crucial. Accurate documentation ensures everyone is informed and accountable, maintaining the project's momentum.

6.30 AM

I start my morning either by going for a walk or completing a few tasks around the house. This helps me wake up fully and feel productive right from the start. By 7:30 AM, I’m ready to head out, jumping on the bus for a 30-minute ride to work. During the commute, I enjoy listening to music or diving into a good book, making the journey both relaxing and enriching. The bus ride offers a peaceful transition from home to the office, allowing me to mentally prepare for the day ahead.

8.00 AM

Upon arrival, I make myself a cup of coffee and sit down at my desk to go through my to-do list from the previous day for a refresher. I check my emails, chat with my colleagues, and make a plan of attack for the day. This morning routine helps me prioritise tasks and set clear goals for the hours ahead.

9.30 AM

I gather all my protective equipment (PPE) – hard hat, safety boots, high-visibility vest, and gloves – and head out to the construction site. The site walk-around is a crucial part of my role. During these walks, we assess general progress and identify any items for discussion, as well as conduct a general check on health and safety protocols onsite. Ensuring that our project stays on track requires constant vigilance and a keen eye for detail.

The site walk gives me a comprehensive understanding of the current stage of construction and any potential issues that might arise. We then proceed to the onsite meeting room to begin our fortnightly site meetings. With two active construction zones, these meetings are essential for addressing immediate concerns and planning the next steps with the team. They also provide an opportunity for the wider team to understand our upcoming phases and discuss potential risks associated with working within a functional hospital. Collaboration and clear communication are key to navigating the complexities of such a dynamic environment.

1.30 PM

After a productive morning onsite, I head back to the office for lunch. I usually bring a homemade meal, which gives me a sense of comfort and energy for the afternoon. Lunchtime is a great opportunity to relax and catch up with colleagues, share updates and enjoy some downtime. Conversations range from work-related topics to personal interests, creating a balanced and enjoyable break. This midday pause helps me recharge and prepares me for the tasks ahead.

The afternoon begins with documenting the outcomes of the morning meetings. Writing up detailed meeting minutes and following up on any urgent actions that came out of the site discussions is crucial. Accurate documentation ensures everyone is informed and accountable, maintaining the project's momentum. I also use this time to touch base with my team, checking on the progress of immediate tasks and providing support where needed. This part of the day involves a lot of coordination and communication, ensuring all team members are aligned and working efficiently.

4.00 PM

As the day winds down, I start to finish up my tasks and make a to-do list for the following day. Reflecting on what I’ve accomplished and planning helps me stay organised and focused. I review my list from the current day to see what I’ve ticked off and what might need additional attention tomorrow. This reflective practice not only boosts my productivity but also gives me a sense of achievement. I often take a few moments to tidy up my workspace, preparing for a fresh start the next morning.

5.00 PM

Work wraps up, and I get ready for our weekly social sport activity. Currently, it’s futsal every Wednesday, but we’ve also played beach volleyball over the summer. This is a fantastic way to burn off some energy in the middle of the week and engage in some friendly competition with my workmates. These activities are not only fun but also great for team building and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The camaraderie and friendly banter on the field helped strengthen our team dynamics, making work even more enjoyable.

7.00 PM

After a good game, I head home, often feeling both exhausted and exhilarated. The evening is a time to unwind, enjoy dinner, and perhaps watch a show or read more of my book. Reflecting on the day, I feel grateful for the variety of opportunities and learning exposure my role provides. The balance of challenging tasks and enjoyable activities makes each day fulfilling. I look forward to what the next day will bring, ready to embrace new challenges and achievements.
