I am happy with the work I did with my first team and my managers were keen on immersing me in different parts of the wider team so I experienced a lot more than what I anticipated. I have just finished my first rotation in the Emerging Professionals programme so I am starting to understand what my new team does and how it connects with the rest of the organisation.

I have just started in a new team, but I am trying out a strategic policy role for the first time. I complete tasks with a degree of autonomy but also with the safety of knowing someone else will check my work before it goes anywhere. I have been preparing a response for a select committee review

Every day is truly different, some days I am writing up a PowerPoint, others I'm in meetings all days. Some times I am even just sitting and reading up everything that I need to learn. I keep a goals and work plan close by so that I can just track my progress so I try every week to update that too.

I am still early on in my time at Waka Kotahi, so I do not have heaps of responsibilities yet. However, I'm being given heaps of opportunities to develop my skills, like making communications content and developing a comms plan. I've also been helping with editing presentations and documents.
