McGrathNicol is a specialist Advisory and Restructuring firm, helping businesses improve performance, manage risk, and achieve stability and growth. Our Restructuring team deals with businesses in financial distress. Partnering with boards, management teams and financiers facing situations of financial distress, we quickly identify root causes, formulate turnaround strategies and implement value-maximising restructures. We advise companies across all industry sectors and business sizes. As a Restructuring Graduate, you will assist our clients to restore stability through financial and operational challenges on restructuring, turnaround and insolvency engagements. You will also have the opportunity to assist our Advisory teams in helping non-distressed organisations improve performance by mitigating risk, managing change and achieving growth.

What we offer you

  • As a Graduate, you will gain real world commercial experience and be challenged to implement pragmatic solutions on high profile engagements.
  • We offer a unique opportunity to work closely with senior staff and Partners, learning and gaining valuable insights from some of the best in the industry. You will also have a Buddy, Counselling Manager and Counselling Partner dedicated to supporting and investing in you from day one.
  • Our people are passionate, driven, inclusive and collaborative. Continuous development is engrained in our culture and we have robust development and reward frameworks to support performance and progression, including tailored formal training throughout your career to complement real-time coaching and feedback.
  • Our Graduate Development Program is expertly designed to provide you with the technical knowledge and professional skills you need to launch your career at McGrathNicol. Over the course of your first 12 months, you will build a deep understanding of the firm and develop strong relationships with your national graduate cohort through a mix of online and in-person sessions, including key intensive 'grad camp' events throughout the year.
  • We provide full financial support to complete the Chartered Accountants (CA) Program including both subject fees and the optional CA Masterclass offered by CA ANZ. Our generous CA study leave equates to 25 days of paid leave over the course of the CA Program. Graduates without direct entry to the CA Program will also be supported through the necessary CA Foundations modules.
  • We work and celebrate as a team. Build connections by working across our services, attending regular social events and participating in firm-organised charity days, retreats and wellbeing initiatives.

Very challenging yet rewarding. I have been trusted early on to play a key role on multiple projects, ranging from conducting forensic analysis in response to cyber incidents, to assessing and uplifting the security architecture of organisations.

Pros and cons of working at McGrathNicol

Pros

  • The best part of working at McGrathNicol is the strong, supportive culture. Everyone is dedicated to helping you succeed and build a solid foundation for your career."

  • The positive and supportive workplace culture allows you to learn quickly as a graduate. It is not long before you are making genuine contributions and working independently.

  • Graduates get to work closely with senior staff like Directors and Partners, which is not an opportunity you receive at larger firms and provides great growth and learning opportunities.

  • Managers are supportive of working 1-2 days a week from home.

  • As a Graduate, you have a formal development program which involves online sessions and in-person camps with graduates across the country and all service lines.

Cons

    • Lack of resourcing during busy periods can place undue responsibility on younger team members.

    • There are times when work gets very busy, and I stay back a little to meet deadlines.

    • Smaller firm means the grad cohort is smaller.

    • I know some of my friends are on more at a similar level... Pay could be higher as the hours can be long.

    • High expectations during busy periods, which can be stressful… but I like how the McGrathNicol team works together to spread the workload.”
