Seowon Kang

In the morning, I often go to site visits with the Infrastructure Connections Coordinator- Cliff Whittaker. We visit sites to measure distances to boundaries to create quotes for new Three Waters Connections.

6.30 AM

I usually get up around 6:30 am and prepare breakfast for me and my partner. I have a simple breakfast like fried egg with toast, oats, or a sandwich. I park my car around Claudelands Bridge and enjoy walking over the bridge. It is a pleasure to see the Waikato River every morning and also I don’t need to drive through busy traffic.

7.30 AM

I’ll usually arrive at the office between 7.30 am to 8.00 am and turn my laptop on. Then, take my lunch to the cafeteria and get a cup of coffee from the machine. I start my day by clearing emails that have come in and plan my day while I am drinking my morning coffee.

10.00 AM

For the morning tea break, I go down to the cafeteria to get another cup of coffee or tea. I have a drawer full of snacks ready in my second drawer like sweets and biscuits.

12.30 PM

I have a lunch break around 12.30 pm and if the weather is nice, I often head out to go for a quick walk around the city to enjoy the fresh air. Otherwise, I have a lunch box upstairs in the third-floor kitchen. There are many people in the cafeteria during lunchtime, so it is a very good time to build a relationship with other people who work for different departments in council.

1.30 PM

I almost always take my full hour for lunch so I’m able to return to my tasks with a clear head. I attempt to price up the quotes for the new Three Waters Connections as soon as possible after site visits as it is the time that I can remember more things about the sites. Therefore, quoting is a priority among my afternoon tasks. I meet with Cliff to peer review the quotes I have drafted.

3.00 PM

I usually go through the new Three Waters Connections applications for the last part of the day at the council. I carefully look through the site plans and applications, and then lodge them on the system once they fulfil all criteria. The count of new applications coming in is unpredictable, so I am very busy lodging new applications sometimes.

5.00 PM

I walk back to my car through Claudelands Bridge. It is only five minutes drive home from where I park. As soon as I get back home, I prepare my dinner. I am currently taking one paper at Uni, so I attend a class at 6.00 pm twice a week, and I also attend pilates twice a week around 6.00 pm.

7.00 PM

Therefore, my dinner time is usually 7.00 pm. I have dinner with my partner, and we chat about the day. It is the most relaxing time of the day. Sometimes, we watch the news after dinner when there is a big issue like lockdown.

9.00 PM

After dinner, I go for a short walk or run around to have my own time. Night running time is my mindfulness time. When I get back home from running, I do some stretching and have a shower.

10.00 PM

I always try to do some study before bed. I do read some work relevant stuff or homework from uni. In any case, I still try to get to bed early enough to get at least seven hours of sleep so I can make the most of each day.
