Jackson Tu’inukuafe

This work is really interesting, but requires a bit of focus. I head to the high table and get stuck in. The view’s not bad either!

5.30 AM

Alarm goes off. Wake up. Time to head to the gym. I try go most mornings during the week but it depends on the commitments that I have on.

7:00 AM

I get ready for work, have some breakfast and catch the bus in.

8.30 AM

I arrive into work, take out my laptop and get set up. I use this time to look at my ‘to do’ list, work out what I need to do for the day and then go raid the fruit bowl for the best looking apple, pear, or banana.

Once I’m back at my desk I start by looking at my inbox and calendar, seeing what has come in overnight and what I have on for the rest of the week. If there’s any work requiring a bit more focus than usual, I’ll try tackle it first thing.

9.15 AM

The team heads downstairs to the in-house café to grab a coffee. While we wait, we catch up on what everyone did over the weekend.

9.30 AM

Today is our team workflow meeting. We have workflow meetings once a week and members from both our Auckland and Wellington offices join (our Wellington team members zoom in). At workflow, we discuss capacity, business development and other general team announcements.

11.00 AM

After workflow, the first thing on my ‘to do’ list is to finish drafting some personal asset planning documents. This includes preparing a letter of wishes, deed of amendment and new wills. I complete a first draft of these documents and send them off for review. I then make a quick stop to the library to take out a textbook.

1.00 PM

It’s time to have a break, so I head to the lunchroom. There is already a healthy presence of graduates, 1st year solicitors and 2nd year solicitors by the time I get there. We end up doing the daily quiz in the newspaper together.

2.00 PM

After lunch, I return to my desk and have a quick flick through a report the team has received before getting back to work.

2.10 PM

The next task on my ‘to do’ list is to help prepare a memorandum that gives some specific recommendations on how a jurisdiction could modernise its trust law and improve its marketability to foreign settlors. This work is really interesting, but requires a bit of focus. I head to the high table and get stuck in. The view’s not bad either!

5.10 PM

Home time. None of the tasks I have been set require me to stay late, so I pack up and catch the bus home. I spend the rest of the evening cooking dinner and getting ready for the next day.
