About the Team

Our Corporate Finance team works as part of the wider Advisory team. With a broad variety of focus areas the team work on due diligence, capital raisings, mergers & acquisitions and valuations to name a few.

We are a high performing team having won various awards such as, Leading Accounting Adviser for IPOs on the ASX in 2020, a leading Financial Due Diligence provider globally in 2020 and we have completed 1,546 deals globally in 2020 with a total value of $83.5bn!

Creating a strong platform from which to launch your career starts on your first day. As an Undergraduate you'll gain ongoing real-life work experience providing valuable and practical opportunities to broaden your knowledge and set up your career upon graduating.

BDO will continuously support you in your training and development; this includes various courses and training programs- ranging from specialist/technical knowledge to client-winning skills. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to commence with our firm at a time that suits you and we can work around you regarding support needed to complete your degree. Our Partners and team will guide you through every stage of your career whilst supporting you to expand your network both locally and globally during your time with BDO.

What are your learning opportunities?

Day to day you'll be exposed to real work our team do. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Working in a team on due diligence and other advisory projects, such as, initial public offerings, mergers & acquisitions, valuations or financial modelling;
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of engagements;
  • Reviewing and interpreting financial statements to determine business operations, drivers and performance indicators;
  • Drafting reports to provide our clients expert financial advice;
  • Engaging with and learning from a dedicated and supportive team and leveraging the wider BDO network to grow your career;
  • Being involved in hands-on client contact to ensure deliverables meet client needs and expectations.

About You

You'll currently be studying a degree in business, commerce, or a related discipline. As you'll be engaged in doing meaningful work for day one, you'll bring:

  • Well-rounded communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A passion for financial analysis;
  • Customer focused work experience;
  • An understanding of how to work in a team environment;
  • Proven academic achievement combined with an enthusiasm for continuous learning and development.

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
