Your career

We are currently seeking students who are interested in joining our Business Services and Audit teams. Our Graduates are very important to us, as we recognise their potential to become our firm’s future leaders. For the right candidates, these positions provide strong pathways for career development, as part of our growing firm.

As a Graduate in Business Services, your career development journey will include:

  • Start within our Business Accounting (Bookkeeping) team and build a strong foundation for career progression within Business Services
  • Gain a solid understanding in payroll, superannuation, GST, data entry, financial reporting and ATO deadlines
  • Receive software exposure, training and certification in systems such as MYOB and Xero. 
  • Progression to develop taxation and business advisory expertise
  • Develop skills through on the job training within our supportive Business Services team environment as well as formal structured learning support.

As a Graduate in Audit, your career development journey will include:

  • Get involved in real client work from the beginning of your career, supported by our experienced team every step of the way
  • Spend most of your time at the client’s premises building an understanding of the client’s business, identifying potential risks and analysing information to provide the client and their stakeholders a level of assurance on the financial statements
  • Support in your career development with a formal structured training program and on the job coaching.

About You

We are seeking Graduates who are in their final year, or have previously completed, a relevant qualification such as a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or a Bachelor of Commerce. Specific qualifications and experience you will bring include:

  • Eligibility for CA/CPA postgraduate study
  • Ability to communicate with confidence and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Drive to contribute as a dynamic team player
  • High levels of attention to detail
  • Professionalism, organised and proactive style and an eagerness to learn
  • Strong IT skills as well as willing and able to learn new technologies.

Checking emails, liaising with clients to receive information on their R&D activities, writing/drafting activities according to AusIndustry guidelines/ITAA legislation. Calculating financial incentives and meeting with clients.

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
