Application Process & Interviews at AMP

Interview process was clear and concise. The AMP graduate recruitment team provided us with clear instructions that were easy to follow and provided us with ample support on the day of the assessments.

The interview process was easy to navigate. It required pre-testing, an assessment centre and presentation of a case study.

AMP has a clear line of communication with potential new employees, the recruiting process is comprehensive but not burdensome on either party. Recruitment team are friendly.

There was a video interview and then an AC with a task and interviews.

Application involved resume, answering general work and personal questions. Progressed to an online skills test and video interview. Followed by the whole day assessment centre involving a group activity, individual case study and interviews.

There was a standard online assessment as well as a full day virtual assessment centre that included interviews that was hosted virtually on Teams due to peak covid19 period.

Seamless. A very personal experience - unlike other companies who seem to employ robots to recruit.

There was a video interview with behavioral questions, psychometric testing, and an assessment center.

Interview process was clear and concise with everything explained and running smoothly (even though it was virtual). Assessment centre was more individual based and less teamwork based because of the virtual nature.

The interviewing process and assessment centre is a challenging and rigorous exercise, however this is by design and sets you up for success in a career at AMP.

First round included an application and psychometric tests done online. Once passed, the next stage was a pre-recorded interview where we answered questions on camera to pre-made prompts. After this, the next stage was the assessment centre where we had 3 rounds of interviews for the day as well as 1 hour to create and present a specific task.

I was asked about my previous experiences with work & education, Asked about my hobbies and some of my personal background. I was asked to provide a brief on the industry and some of my understandings to gauge my strengths and weaknesses. I was then able to ask some questions of the interviewer and gain further insight from that conversation.

Career history and aspirations, interests, study history, hobbies and extracurricular activities etc. Also asked STAR/tell me about a time when you ... type questions.

Questions centred very much around behavioural achievements which is understandable for a graduate position.

Group presentation including Q&A, individual presentation including Q&A and then two interviews with panels of two senior managers. Lots of questions around interest in the company, aspirations, previous work experience and university studies.

Past experiences and how they have shaped you. Name a time you have dealt with adversity. Name a time when you had to take the lead on something. Why would I be a good fit?

I was asked why I wanted to work for AMP and why I had chosen my specific stream. The interviewers were interested in my motivation and career goals.

Very general questions to begin with. I feel as though the interviewers really wanted to gauge character rather than outright achievements/academic record. e.g. Which area of real estate do you most want to end up in? What kind of work environments do you think you perform the best in? What's your favourite building?

Behavioural style questions

Make sure you look at company's website with a focus on the purpose and values. Think of examples of when you've demonstrated these values, with relation to prior job experience if possible.

I would suggest its important to know some of the business context and how AMP operates in the wider industry. Other than this is mainly important to approach the company with a clear understanding of your own skills, experiences & what you're seeking to get out of the business alongside what you can provide to the company.

Best way to prepare is to practice interview technique, remeber that only you know the answer, so relax.

Be yourself. If you're passionate and enthusiastic, they will be able to tell. As long as you're willing to learn and try new things, you will be a great fit.

Just make sure you know what your strengths and weaknesses are beforehand and be able to give clear, well thought out responses.

The usual stuff - STAR responses, some background research on the company but also be aware of how you interact with the other candidates as this is watched throughout the assessment centre.

It's important to incorpoate the current context and overall environment into the way you answer questions in both your physcial and online video interviews in order to stand out. I.e. are there current trends in the industry that are likely to impact this company moving forward or are you somewhat up-to-date on the current happenings of the company. Additioanlly, make sure you don't just rote learn set answers to questions and instead you bring your own personality to the forefront.

Try to learn as much about the company and the stream you are applying for before the interview stage, and don't be afraid to reach out to graduates who are currently with the company if you wanted to learn more. In the interviews, just be genuine in your answers, the interviewers will be able to sense if you're not.
