Application Process & Interviews at AECOM New Zealand

Was straight forward and headache free

very strict and processes try to find the best candidate out of many applicants. I took 3 steps but from time to time people come in various methods so quite open.

The first assessment feels like it wasn't needed as it seemed like a personality test. That is something that should be done in an in-person interview the second logic felt good to answer, maybe make it mobile friendly the presentation before the interview was really nice because it gave me a better idea about AECOM and the in-person interview was pretty stock-standard

I did not do any tests such as logic tests and responses to scenarios as I know other graduates have. I believe the hiring testing was being reviewed and updated at the time I was being hired so I didn't do it. I had an interview with my manager and also got a chance to get coffee with one of the recent graduates that had started at AECOM to ask questions and get to know more about the position.

I applied, got an hour long in-person interview, and a few days later was offered the job.

I did not go through conventional means but when I previously did it was quite long and tedious compared to other companies.

I thought the hiring process was very professional! I really enjoyed all the assessments and interviews that took place. The group interview was also great and I really liked the idea and purpose of it.

Too much process

IT's pretty good! I wish there was a more clear explanation of what is expected for specific roles as during the interview I was asked what team I would be interested in between modelling, design, and advisory. I had no idea how to answer

Easy and straight forward process for interviews and assessments

I came through after being an intern at the office, I did not require any interview or assessment as I was already part of the team. In becoming an intern I did not go through an application process, I instead went to AECOM directly and asked about what opportunities their internship would provide, and got a role through that meeting.

I was first hired by AECOM as a summer intern in 2022-2023, and the interview process was very simple and the interviewer was very friendly. During my internship, I was offered to join again as a graduate once I finished my studies.

I did my interview in 2021 alongside other companies I had applied for, so can't quite remember the process. I interviewed for my internship position which was over 2021 to 2022 and this carried on after my postgrad into a full-time role in 2023 so I haven't done one since.

From my person experience the hiring process was very breezy. I had one face-to-face interview in my local office with my team lead. It was very relaxed setting and I received the opportunity within a week after my interview.

Very straightforward process and assessment, along with standard interview questions that I experienced.

Online submission, online recorded video answering questions and online/in person meeting with leadership/team leads.

Thorough but impersonal

The interview itself was really great! I loved how comfortable the interviewers made me feel! The only issue was the long wait to hear back about whether I was successful or not.

I would say for me it was great!

It has been over a year I don't remember

Generic interview questions such as 'why are you interested in this roll', 'strengths and weaknesses' etc, but I also got the opportunity to just have a discussion with my manager and ask questions myself. I feel like the interview was a good judge of character for myself and my future manager, and was not overly formal.

They were just behavioural questions, like how would I respond to certain scenarios at work. Nothing technical if I remember correctly.

I don't really remember specific questions, it was definitely more of a vibe check to see if you would get along well with the team. One question I do remember was something about 'how do you react in instances that a client might change their mind and you have to redo all your existing work/how would you handle this situation'.

This is quite difficult to remember: what I studied, why I have a passion for it, why I like the company, what my favourite projects were...

one way interview: About the company Face to face: General, a small touch of technical knowledge. Pretty much they would like to see your general character.

I don't remember but it wasn't anything out of the blue. All I would say is it would be good to have some knowledge of the company's biggest projects- especially from the office you're applying for

Can you explain a bit about yourself. How did you fix to get through a group project that was not going right at uni?

My manager wanted to get to know me as a person and how I work which was great! He asked me things about myself and also how I would work in group scenarios.

Qualifications, hobbies, experience at university, work experience - over a year or two ago so trying to remember. Was hired from my internship interview.

I did not undergo an interview for my role, I came in through my internship. I became an intern after organizing a meeting with one of the managers and having a semi formal chat about the company and the roles that you can take within in.

Fairly standard interview questions

be open for all opportunities and willing to take advice as you do not know anything as graduate. and don't think of doing something as if you sacrifice yourself. its work and that's what you get paid for.

-look up AECOMs core values and see how you can use them in your answers -ask 2 types of questions, logistics(work hours, overtime and such), and what you will be doing for work and how the company will facilitate you - look up projects AECOM is doing and see how you could put that in your answer

I believe that being honest and taking a second to think about questions is important. Whether it be in an interview or during some online assessments there's no harm in taking some time to think before responding if you don't have a prepared answer. I really valued the discussion with the early professional before I started so seek that out if you're able to.

Juist be yourself

You shouldn't need to prepare, just be your authentic self.

I would say to just be yourself!! I think this is the most important advice. It is important to make an impression and you wont do that by holding back on your personality!

Be yourself and prepare some basic knowledge of the company you get interview.

See the above comment and be yourself. Don't be too humble- if you have successes both in and out of university/previous work- find a way to weave that into some of your answers

Do some research on the company beforehand, set up a LinkedIn and give examples of how you would be good in a team environment.

Be confident in your answers and relax as well, it can be daunting but it is an open interview and is the best way for your potential team leader and coordinator to get to know you better.

Be honest and open. Come prepared with generic questions and relate your experience to situations with real-life examples.

Learn about the job you are applying for and prepare questions based off this research

Be yourself... Listen to the questions and analyse them before responding. It's important to be honest and transparent. I would also do research on the company, learn the company's core values.

Treat the interview like a conversation - you should also try to get to know them as much as they try to get to know you !

I would say that AECOM is very keen to explore uniqueness, and creative ideas. They respond well to visionary ideas, and trailblazer energy.

My advice would be to not get too worked up and stressed about it. Be yourself and just answer the questions as they come to you. In my interview I remember saying I didn't know some of the stuff he was asking about (software related etc.) but I just made sure he knew I was very willing to learn new things and excited to have the opportunity to talk to him.

Just the same as other places. I will say, AECOM focuses on culture a lot and soft skills. You are not typically asked weird technical questions at a grad/intern level like some other companies.
